Nathalie, also know as Natso is currently living in Montreal. Her work starts with the colors she chooses, and in her vibrant acrylic on canvas paintings and photographic prints, it is certainly true that colors set the emotion tone. With lots of contrast, the artist gives each of her images a depth that pulls the viewer in. Applying her paints in bold drips and swirls as well as in delicately rendered patterns, she varies those textures to add to the energy and power of her paintings.
Influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting, her images integrate her bold palette and distinct textures into free-flowing, dynamic compositions that seem to be in a constant state of motion and change. But for the artist, the ideas behind her paintings revolve around emotions and feelings.
The joy of exploring and expressing my inner world!
Influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting, my images incorporate a bold palette and distinct textures into free-flowing, dynamic compositions that seem to be in constant state of motion and change. I value spontaneity, expression and freedom of movement, all of which are central to my work.
Most of my creations are inspired by my inner world. I create intuitively by using my emotional landscape to obtain strong and vibrant compositions. I love to explore the unknown; to see what will emerge from the process of moving paint around on the canvas is very exciting to me.
When I start a piece, I let my emotions guide me and set the tone. I choose the colors and then allow the work to happen by letting my hand move freely on the canvas. Throughout this subconscious and creative process, the subject reveals itself to me. As soon as an image takes shape, I begin to approach the subject more consciously. The image is sometimes discovered in a few agitated, vivid and dynamic brushstrokes. I don't attempt to depict objective reality, but rather my own feelings towards the subject. I use a process that is highly spontaneous, rather than aiming towards a specific form or subject.
With the fast drying time of acrylic paints, I create various textures and interesting effects. I play around and constantly add new tools and techniques to my process. Transparency, layers, coloured contrasts and textures come into play to create a multidimensional visual experience; they give depth and liveliness to artworks.
I believe Art has the power to heal, uplift and inspire both the artist and the observer. I consider my work successful when viewers are pulled into the painting and experience their own feelings and emotions. By sharing my inner world, I seek to awake sensations and stir up emotions in the viewers.
Since she was young, Nathalie Marino always had an artistic flair and a craving for creativity. She's a painter who strives to create and express her most inner feelings. Armed with her sparkling curiosity, she’s always searching for diversity and novelty. Her first choice as a carrier was Architecture for its creative component, but it was in 2009 that she started to paint.
She met an artist who inspired her and passed on his passion for painting. After this crucial meeting she discovered how much she had a visceral need to express herself with a free approach, without resistance or control. She now finds her balance by associating Art and Emotions; a liberating journey where spontaneous gestures and insights merge.
Emotions, whether conscious or not, mostly inspire her. With the reflection of her inner world, her contemporary art associate dynamism, color, energy and depth. She considers her work accomplished when the viewer is pulled into the image presented and feels his own emotions.
Natso proposes us a lively work of the senses, a journey through the subconscious, the felt and the feelings, which live in us all. An intense sensation to be lived and discovered.
